Roadtrip Stops #9 & 10: Deserts

Spokane After Missoula, we had big plans for Spokane. Unfortunately, the 107 degree heat wave put a damper on most of those plans. Our Hipcamp was interesting, though! We stayed at Hidden Acres Orchard and nestled our tent among a grove of mulberry trees. This was the first night we actually had the time and energy to set up our full camp, complete with our table and chairs. We used our camp stove to cook…

Roadtrip Stop #8: Llamas & Alpacas!

This is a longer update than usual because I’m combining two posts! I drafted the first portion of this post on May 26, 2023. “Dreamsearcher” Let me start this post off by self-identifying as a researcher. When I have a dream, vision, or idea I research the heck out of it so that I can bring it to life. I research my dreams–I’m a “dreamsearcher”, if you will. For example: Anywho, since we’ve been talking…

Roadtrip Stops #6 & #7: South Dakota to Montana

On our last day in South Dakota we explored three more sites: Wind Cave National Park, Mt. Rushmore National Monument, and Custer State Park. Here’s my quick opinion of each: Wind Cave National Park If you’re not on a mission set foot in every National Park, skip this one. It’s small and the namesake cave is not always accessible–during our visit, the elevator was broken so we could not visit the cave. Since we were…

Roadtrip Stop #5: The World’s ONLY Corn Palace

The best part of Friday (Aug 11) was AC’s unscheduled pit stop at the one and only Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD! AC saw billboards from the highway and, as you should when you pass signs for “the world’s only [anything]”, knew that we had to take a quick detour to see this gem. The Corn Palace was wonderfully gaudy! It’s a combination of corn history museum and multi-purpose arena. The arena part can host…

Roadtrip Stop #4: Dutch Ovens…Not the Farting Kind

Kicking Off Yesterday, we made our way from St. Louis, MO to Sioux Falls, SD. Since our bodies were still on eastern time, we were up nice and early. We cooked some of the fresh eggs from our Hipcamp hosts, then we packed up and hit the road again. The drive was fairly uneventful. We did swing through Kansas City and grab photos with a couple fun murals and accidentally took a short detour into…

Roadtrip Stops #2 & 3: Louisville and St. Louis

Louisville The adventure continues! The longest legs of our trip took us from Washington, DC to Louisville, KY to St. Louis, MO. We got to Louisville pretty late, but we still made pit stops at Churchill Downs and the Louisville Slugger Museum to snap some quick pics. We grabbed dinner on Whiskey Row where AC enjoyed Louisville’s signature drink (and one of her favorites), an Old Fashioned. For desert, we did some dusky scooting around…

Roadtrip Stop #1: Washington, DC

TL:DR We began our grand adventure on Sunday and our first stop was two nights in Washington, DC. Was this stop out of the way? A bit. Did we have tickets to see P!nk in concert in DC? We sure did! I’ve been wanting to see P!nk in concert for years and AC surprised me with tickets last Christmas. That show was everything I hoped for and more! Details are coming, I promise, but first……

Full On Fangirl!

(This post was written on June 23, 2023.) I’m writing this post in fan girl mode because I just ran into Marty Raney in the Seattle Airport!  For those of you who have no idea who I’m talking about, that’s ok, I probably wouldn’t have known him either if we weren’t on a homesteading journey. Marty is the star of the TV show Homestead Rescue, on the Discovery Network. He and two of his kids…

Road Trip!

AC has finished the itinerary for our road trip from the east coast of the USA to the west coast of Canada and we leave in 3 days! I’m sure you all are dying to know more about our route (or at least my mom is). Here you go! I’m not going to share full details now for safety purposes. But I will post an update on each stop–including where we were and what we…

DIY Truck Camper

We are now homeless on purpose! We sold our house as part of our grand plan, but we still need some place to live on our cross-country trek and in between farm stays. Rather than spend oodles of money on various hotel rooms, we decided we’ll be campers! We’ll camp out of a tent and out of our truck, depending on our moods and the weather. But before we could camp out of our truck,…
