That’s a Wrap

My adorable sniffly-nose niece and nephews gifted me the flu for Christmas. Admittedly, not my favorite gift. But I’d be even less happy about it if those kiddos weren’t so cute and fun to hang out with. At this point, we can just assume that whenever AC and I visit children on either side of the family, I will be returning to the farm with a cold or a virus. That’s just the way it…

Winter is Coming

Hi everyone! We’ve been busy hosting friends and family, and preparing for winter (already!). Here’s a quick recap of the past 2 months. My sister brought her family to the farm in early September and AC and I had a blast with them! Our nephews are 2 ad 4 so farm life is their favorite life right now. I thought we’d venture downtown and maybe find a playground at some point, but we never left…

Roll Call

Hi friends! Things are rolling right along on the homestead! Roll call and updates: Goats: Cute little Mushu isn’t quite so little anymore, but he’s still just as cute! He loves scratches, especially between his lil’ baby horns, and he’s becoming his own, independent billy self. We found a new family for him (he’s actually going to replace Jack, the dud stud from a few posts back) and he’ll head to his new home the…

We have a kid!

I hope your 4th of July was as fun as ours. We woke up to a new baby goat!!!!! When we got Meriwhether (mom), we were told she was probably pregnant because a buck lived in the same yard with her. But, for months, she never showed any signs (or size) of being pregnant. Then, about 3 weeks ago, when she blew up to about double her size, we figured she was, indeed, with kid.…

Coming Up for Air One Year Later

Where did the past two months go?! It has been a wicked busy spring for us. On top of swapping goats, tending animals, and navigating a steep learning curve with the garden, we decided to renovate the barn so it can house friends and family when y’all come visit. The barn project has been a doozy, but we’re almost finished. Granted, we’ve been saying that for about three weeks…one day (soon, hopefully) it will actually…

Out with the Old, In with the New!

Spring is a busy time on the homestead! Case in point, I wrote this update a week ago and am just now getting around to posting it. Better late than never, though, right?! So, here’s what happened a week ago [with more current updates in brackets]… Goats We woke up with one goat getting sick out of both ends and ended the day with two new pregnant goats and a little doeling. How was your…

We’ve Grown Again!

At this very second, I’m proofing a couple loaves of homemade bread and AC is outside processing some rabbits. I figured, if anyone would appreciate the “homesteadiness” of this moment, it would be y’all! In an effort to not bury the lead too far, we got rabbits! We’re now the proud owners of two does and a buck who will provide future meat rabbits for our freezer. One of the does is a Rex/New Zealand…

The Homestead in Winter

We are definitely feeling more like a farm these days – the new additions sure are keeping us on our toes. Despite the two months we spent on goat farms, we are learning what kind of mischief goats can find. Between getting their heads stuck in the fence, escaping through the gate when our backs are turned, head-butting Meeko any chance they can, stealing dog food and trying to climb walls lets just say its…

New Additions!

It’s been a while y’all, but we’re back…and bigger than ever! Our farm family has grown by 2 dogs and 3 (likely pregnant) goats! I’ll introduce you to our new furry friends in just a moment, but first, I want to highlight all the great work AC has done to get us to this point. I’ve been busy with a big project at work so AC single-handedly built the goat barn. The structure has 3…
