Taking It Easy

This past week was pretty low key so this will be a short post. We completed our morning and evening chores each day, per usual. AC worked with Annabelle to muck stalls and rearrange the office.

I made a few trips into town this week because I needed a more reliable WiFi connection for a couple of meetings. The farm has WiFi, but it’s slow at best. Not quite reliable enough to host a client-facing webinar. Luckily, a 10-minute drive into Florence provided a strong enough connection, and a nice little change of scenery. And, since I have my “desk” in the back seat of the truck, I didn’t even have to spend awkward hours using a coffee shop’s internet and not buying anything–I just mooched from their parking lot. Am I cheap? Yes, because we’re saving for a house.

Wednesday was a real treat because we got to join my Aunt Sarah and her BFF Jenny for dinner in Phoenix! Jenny was attending a conference and Sarah was tagging along for fun (and working remotely). We spent 2 wonderful hours catching up over dinner and drinks and it was good for my soul. I love that woman!

On Friday, AC and I cleaned the milking room. We took everything out and hosed it all down. The walls were gross from all the sprays (milk spray, teat cleaning spray, goat spray, all the sprays) so it took a bit of elbow grease to get them squeaky clean. We also wiped down all the carts, stands, and bins that Annabelle stores in there because they were covered with sandy dust. The before-and-after might look like too much, but it was work!

On Friday, we also said goodbye to the 3 puppies and to 5 little boy goats. One of Annabelle’s friends came with her trailer and took them all. The goats, being so young, have always been skiddish so it was a bit hectic corralling them into the trailer, but we got it done. The puppies will find a new home on her ranch while the goats went to be “dispatched.”

This morning, Annabelle, who is from Venezuela, taught us how to properly make arepas. I have attempted these twice before, but they were always very dense and gummy. I got some pointers as Annabelle whipped them up and then we all enjoyed some egg and cheese arepas for breakfast.

Aaaaand that pretty much sums up the week. Happy Thanksgiving, y’all!

Until next time,
