It’s Thursday and this week has already been a full one. It started with a pre-inspection for our own sanity– I didn’t want any big surprises that could keep our house from selling–and it went pretty well! No surprises, only small things that we already knew about or are easily fixable…except for one. We have a bat in the attic. The inspector wasn’t sure if it was a bat or a leaf, but AC bravely climbed through the attic to confirm we do indeed have a bat! And not a small bat. A pretty large bat, as far as bats go, hanging out (literally) between one of our gable vents and the screen to our attic.
Thank goodness for that screen–without it, I would probably be writing frantically in all caps as a way to express my freak-out about having a bat IN our house.
We learned that there’s nothing we can do about Batty right now. In NC at least, it’s illegal to re-home bats during their breeding season which runs from May 1-July 31. So when we have to tell potential buyers about their surprise tenant, we’re going to present it as free pest control ?
When our inspector left, we immediately put out calls to our roofer (to secure some loose flashing) and our electrician (to bring our kitchen up to code with some GFCI outlets). Then we made a to-do list of a bunch of other things we can go ahead and take care of (replacing a faucet diverter, touching up the mailbox, filling nail holes in the wall, spot painting, etc). We’ve been chipping away at that list all week so we’re almost finished!
Until next time,
Charli
